We had two very enjoyable evenings at the Dunes Saloon. The food was good, friendly atmosphere, great jukebox, and great root beer. The ribs and grilled white fish were excellent. The mashed potatoes were homemade. Pizza was good. We never managed to fit in dessert as the dinner was so filling. I didn't try any of the beers. However the wine comes from an Oregon winery Sarver that the Dunes owner co-owns. The Pinot Noir was excellent. Only complaint is that we came in one evening to discover that there was no red wine to be had. Very disappointing as e Pinot Gris wasn't nearly as tasty as the Pinot Noir.

THE best root beer and red cream soda ever! And great pizza too, with friendly service.

My husband and I stumbled upon this place. The scotch eggs were the best we've ever had, and the pizza was fantastic! Plus our waitress was so nice and helpful. If we ever make it back, we'll definitely stop in again.

I go here about once or twice a year. This last time (two weeks ago) the pizza was extremely underdone. One of the locals said the pizza can be hit or miss depending on who is cooking that day. Love the brown ale. The blueberry wheat was extremely water-y. The garlic parmesan popcorn was heavy with butter/grease but would be great on fries. The beer cheese was a little runny, but tasty. The white fish basket and the onion rings were excellent. Last year the mozzarella bread sticks were great. They need to work on consistency, but they are one of the only games in town, so motivation is lacking.

Came here both nights we were in town camping and hiking Pictured Rocks. First night was a cheeseburger and it wasn't bad. Second night split a pizza. It hit the spot! The sauce was good and it was cheesy and greasy deliciousness. Shared a pitcher of Sandstone Pale Ale and it was just perfect after a long day of hiking!

Yummy pizza and iced tea. The best place to eat in Grand Marais.

Did a 1400 mile roadtrip - this had the best meal of the ride. Get the popcorn. Try a blueberry beer if it's available. Good service, prices where reasonable for the middle of nowhere. Loved it.

Bad experience... Parking was a little crazy. Walled in an the place was packed and hot as hell, so we found a table on the small patio. The server asked what we wanted, we ordered the LSBc Wheat and LSBC Blue Berry Wheat. Both beers came back far less than cold.. it took 20 minutes plus to get a menu. It took for ever to get a refill on the beer. I ordered a bacon double cheese burger with waffle frys. Took for ever for the food to come.. Wife asks for mayo for her burger. Had to wait another 20 plus minutes to get ketchup and mustard. He forgot the mayo. It was then that I realized the burger had no bacon on it!! At this time my wife asks again for mayo. He takes my burger back to the kitchen. Returns 10 minutes later with my wife's mayo and my burger, with NO waffle frys in the try. They were there when he took it... I open the bugers to put on the ketchup & mustard, NOW I FIND IT DRENCHED IN MAYO!! I was calm up till now.... I lost it! They remade my burger correctly, but by now my wife's was ice cold.. Needless to say, it was not worth the drive to get there, and I won't be back.

Would have loved to try it. Arrived shortly after 5 on a Thursday evening with our two kids. It was crowded and we looked for a server to ask if there was a table she thought would be available shortly. She cut me off mid-sentence and snapped "If you can find a seat, sit there" as she stomped through the bar. We decided to find seats in someone else's restaurant. This is a tourist town and she can treat her customers any way she wants without the business suffering--but I won't be one of them.

LOVED this place. Was very busy when we came in and rightfully so. We sat at the bar and ordered a few drinks. The bartender was fast, attentive, personable, and really funny. We had the beer cheese/Pico de Gallo appetizer which was delicious. Very fresh pico. Then we had the whitefish tacos for lunch. So good! The beer was well done too. They had a brown ale, a dry stout and an ESB on tap. All were good, but the ESB was my favorite. In fact, I haven't had an ESB that good in a while. If I ever come back to Grand Marais (which I really hope I do), I'm definitely coming back here. Scenery and beaches aside, this place is a good enough stop on its own!

Great white fish and hand-cut fries. Beer flight is fun. The bartenders were working their asses off, and still super friendly.

Great beer, prompt service at the bar, and food was great tasting. Fish and chips a bit pricey at $14 but salads were a good mix and variety.

Great pizza, but the garlic Parmesan popcorn is a must. They brew their own root beer, which is very good. Service this year was very friendly.

Boyfriend and I went after a long day at pictured rocks and were starving. Food came out fast so we were happy. It smelled weird in there, idk if the brewed beer or the wood? But we quickly got over it. Boyfriend got a Cabin Fever ESB which was their own brewed red ale and it was pretty good! Food: I got a bowl of chili which was watery and lacking enough meat but got me warm after a cold day. They were out of whitefish and perch which I was disappointed in because I was looking forward to some fresh Lake Superior fish. BUT I got a buffalo chicken sandwich that was great! The bread was perfect for the type of sandwich. Boyfriend got the catfish basket which he loved and ate all up, it tasted fresh! Pleasantly surprised by this place :)

With a new patio addition the Lake Superior Brewing Co. continues to serve delicious beers and food! Came in after sailing around the Grand Marais harbor (also a great place to kayak) to enjoy a Hematite Stout, red ale, jalapeño peppers and buffalo wild wings. All good stuff and very friendly service. Worth stopping at if your anywhere in the Grand Marais area.

Was here about a couple a weeks ago, right before the Grand Marais annual music festival. Met many friendly travelers and locals who were long time familiar with the U.P. And had many fascinating outlooks of what makes the U.P. Such a special community. Me and my friend were so welcomed not only by the travelers, but also those who worked there and made the place such a warm an welcoming experience. I will never forget this place and look forward to visiting again. Also they brew their own root beer and its the best ever!

While in Grand Marais on a work assignment, I found myself eating here for each meal except breakfast. It was a cold December week, so business was light. We were warmly welcomed by the locals, which is a joy when you travel so much for work! The food is solid. Don't pass on the homemade chips! Super healthy portions that won't leave you hungry. The local craft beer was worth a try and the bar selection was run of the mill so don't expect anything too fancy--you're 'Up North' enjoy your basics!

It was the perfect storm...terrible service, marginal food, sweltering heat (no A/C). When we arrived, the restaurant was full but not overly crowded. After waiting at our table for 15+ minutes, a snarky waitress took our drink order, ignoring our son. I can withstand the uncomfortable, crowded dining room and average food if there is excellent service. Food and beer get 3.5 stars...service and ambiance get only 1.

Maybe the best restaurant in Grand Marais. Maybe not. Though it's the only place we tried. We had the pizza. It was pretty good. Midwestern mid-thickness crust. Fresh toppings. They only had one of their own beers on tap -- which was a watery, off-flavored, mildly hopped, mediocre IPA. A very down-home UP feel. Their collection of agates --sliced and applied to overhead lights and as stained-glass like windows -- is pretty cool. Though not worth an out-of-the-way trip. If you are in the area and need to grab lunch or dinner, this would be the place. Though the other place might be good too.

Last night in Grand Marias and we needed a place to catch the Tigers game. Excellent choice for a destination. The red beer on tap was very tasty. If you are in Grand Marias be sure to stop in.

Great BEER, really good sandwiches, and the best HOMEMADE potato chips I've ever had!!! Great, friendly service as well. Wish it wasn't eight hours from my home, I would visit often.

After a long 9 hour drive from Findlay Ohio, my girlfriend and I arrived in Grand Marais starving! We quickly checked into our B&B and went on the search for food. I think we saw one other restaurant in Grand Marais and there was literally nobody there, Meanwhile The Dunes Saloon was packed! After a short wait for our waiter to arrive we were informed that they were completely out of fish. Seeing as neither of us are very fond of fish it wasn't a big deal. My girlfriend (who I made my Fiancé on this trip a few days later) ordered one of their specialty beers and a veggy Pizza. I ordered The Cajun Chicken and their very own home brewed root beer. When our food came out I instantly regretted not getting a pizza because her's looked so Delicious! But after one bite of my chicken I was very happy with my choice. Overall the Lake Superior Brewing Co is a great place to eat, or just to have a beer at the end of the day. They are adding additional space for what I've been told is going to be a wine tasting room, seeing as the owners own a few wineries out west.

Stopped here for lunch and to try their beers. I had the brown and it was good, hubby had the ESB and he liked it. Burgers came out not exactly as ordered but still tasted pretty good. Their buns are amazing. Not so impressed with the fries or home made potato chips, but all in all not a bad stop where we could also catch some of the Olympics.

Good beer, great pizza. Found this place on a way back from a road trip to pictured rocks. Would stop again if in the area. Well worth it.
